First Baptist Church Lawn

I grew up in Lawrence with 6 brothers and sisters, we had a tiny yard so we would play in the street joined by the other neighborhood kids.

It is hard to believe now that a posse of kids played games in the middle of the street. We played countless games of Kick the Can, Red Rover, Tag, Hide and Seek, Hop Scotch, Street Hockey, and so many more.

Needless to say we drove the neighbors crazy – we were loud and played from afterschool until the street lights were switched on (except for dinner). During the summer, the hours were extended.

There was even an older lady (probably my age now but ancient to us) who use to chase us with a broom.

So my point of this childhood memory. The First Baptist Church at the corner of Main and Upham Street invites all to play on their lawn.

They have a sign welcoming you, picnic tables, benches, corn hole, and a giant Jenga game.

It is so kind to let the public enjoy the lovely lawn , games or just a peaceful respite. Thank you First Baptist Church for your devotion to the citizens of Melrose, young and old.
