Rotary Skatepark
Written and Photographed by Nancy Clover

Aerials, grinds and gnarly skateboard tricks can all be found at the Melrose Rotary skatepark on Tremont Street.
The park, also known as Robert LeSaffre skatepark, is made up of a back and forth run with a quarter pipe and flat bank on the sides of a funbox. The skatepark also features a miniramp.
The skateboarders were using the ramps and rails to perform flips and tricks. It is fascinating to watch the aerials.
The park will celebrate its 15th birthday on September 25th. (Grand opening on Sept 25, 2008 was a great celebration.) It was made possible by generous donations of the Melrose Rotary Club, the city, owners of Dunkin Donuts, and over 50 other private donations. It is named after Robert D. Bob LeSaffre, who was the former co-owner of Daniels LeSaffre Motors, Inc. in Melrose, He was a member of the board of directors at the Melrose Cooperative Bank, and a member and past president of Melrose Rotary where he served as secretary of the Club for many years.
