Boston Tailored
Written and Photographed by Nancy Clover

I bought a warm coat when we moved here because I was walking more. I loved this coat, warm but light, then tragedy happened – I got it caught on a piece of metal – made an L shape tear right in the front and the feathers started falling out. I was sad, very sad, I figured my coat was beyond repair, but I couldn’t part with it. I finally walked it over to Boston Tailored on Tremont Street. With tears in my eyes, I explained my problem.
Bob, the owner, offered me a tissue, a piece of chocolate and his expert advice. I left my favorite coat in his capable hands. Two weeks later I went to pick it up and he challenged me to find the repair. He won; I could not see the tear or repair – he blended perfectly into the fabric. Amazing.
My coat is happily put away for the summer, but I look forward to wearing it this fall/winter.
Bob startedBoston Tailored with his brother in 1967, they created suits, skirts, and blazers for local retailers. The shop moved to Tremont Street in 1991 and specializes in dry cleaning and professional alterations. They dry-clean shirts, wedding gowns, drapes, and linens. They clean leather and offer storage.
The store is full of Beatles memorabilia and photos of his customers and their families. Generations use his services.
Melrose really has so many amazing small businesses. Boston Tailored is one of them!
