Early Voting for Municipal Election Begins At City Hall
Written and Photographed by Ellen Putnam

On Saturday morning, early voting for the municipal election kicked off at City Hall with a festive atmosphere. Supporters of candidates and both override campaigns lined the street corners around City Hall, and many voters (us included!) came straight from the Spooky Sprint, still wearing their Halloween costumes.
In a campaign season that has sometimes veered into unkindness in online spaces, we loved seeing Melrosians with different views able to stand side-by-side and express their views with calm civility as voters poured in and out of City Hall in a steady stream.
We spotted a number of candidates out holding signs: Ryan Williams, Devin Romanul, and Kim Vandiver stood on one corner; Alex Rodriguez on another; and Elizabeth Kowal, Brad Freeman, and Philip Gindi on the third corner, along with former mayor Gail Infurna and representatives of both the 'Yes' and 'No' override campaigns. (We also heard that other public figures, including Mayor Jen Grigoraitis, were out at other points during the day.)
