The Melrose Arts and Crafts Society

Who doesn’t need a hug in times of crisis?
That’s exactly what the Melrose Arts and Crafts Society aims to provide — one teddy bear at a time. These talented crafters lovingly create homemade teddy bears for local police and fire departments to hand out to those in need of comfort. Whether it’s a scared child, someone facing an emergency, or just a person having a tough day, these cuddly companions bring warmth and reassurance when it’s needed most.
But that’s just one of the many ways this century-old society spreads kindness through creativity. They also craft fleece blankets for hospice patients at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, ensuring warmth and care during difficult times. They make fidget mats for adults with memory challenges, providing comfort and sensory stimulation. And they knit hats and blankets for premature babies, wrapping the tiniest members of the community in love.

For over 100 years, the Melrose Arts and Crafts Society has been a hub of creativity and community. Through lessons, workshops, and hands-on projects, they provide a space where people of all skill levels can learn, create, and connect while giving back.
Each year, their Annual Exhibit and Sale shines a spotlight on the incredible talents of local artisans, offering handcrafted treasures while celebrating the joy of handmade artistry.
Want to get involved? Their next monthly meetings will take place at the First Baptist Church (561 Main St., Melrose) on Monday, March 24, follow the signs at the Church.

These gatherings are filled with guest speakers, craft sessions, and plenty of fun. Open to crafters of all ages, men and women alike, the society welcomes anyone eager to be part of something creative, meaningful, and heartwarming.
To continue their mission, the society gratefully accepts donations of yarn, fabric, and stuffing. Every contribution helps spread a little more warmth and kindness.
At its core, the Melrose Arts and Crafts Society isn’t just about making things—it’s about making a difference. Whether through the soft embrace of a teddy bear, the warmth of a handmade blanket, or the joy of creative companionship, this group proves that art and kindness go hand in hand in making Melrose a more connected and compassionate community.
