Shaw's Carts

Panic averted!
One of the many things I like about Melrose is that Shaw’s allows people to take home their shopping carts and has a service that picks them up at night.

Recently I noticed signs saying wheel locks are in place, oh no, how can that be?
I spoke to Mark the store manager and he assured me the carts can still be taken home but they are designed to combat “pushout theft,” also known as “filling your cart and walking out without paying.” When a cart enters the store, the lock is armed and will engage if it goes out the door without going through a checkout line where the lock is automatically deactivated.
I am delighted that citizens of Melrose will still be able to walk to the grocery store, purchase their food, and utilize the cart to take their groceries home.
Thank you, Shaw’s.
Note that if you see carts around town, call Shaw’s and they will arrange to pick them up.
