Milano Park Gets A New Look
Written and Photographed By Nancy Clover

The corner of Main and Grove just got a little better!
Right in the heart of Melrose, Milano Park — named for Joseph A. Milano (1882–1959), who served on the Board of Aldermen and in the Massachusetts Legislature (and the father of James E. Milano, who served as Mayor of Melrose from 1972 to 1992) — may be small, but it’s a true downtown oasis.
And now? It’s even better.
Adding to the lovely flagpole surrounded by a pollinator garden — a standout feature that adds both color and purpose to the busy corner - a thoughtfully designed facelift has transformed the space:
- A new two-tiered retaining wall creating additional seating
- Fresh pavers that brighten and define the park
- New picnic tables, including one that is ADA accessible
This project was made possible through funding from the State’s Executive Office of Economic Development and the Melrose Redevelopment Authority — a great example of collaboration bringing real improvements to our everyday spaces.
It’s the perfect spot to pause, recharge, and take in a beautiful day right downtown. Thank you, Melrose, for continuing to create welcoming spaces that bring people together.
