3rd Annual Upstairs Downstairs Showed Off The Big Yellow House
By Ellen Putnam
Last weekend, the third annual Upstairs Downstairs event returned to Follow Your Art Community Studios, showcasing a variety of local artists who work out of or with Follow Your Art, along with the studios where they work.
Upstairs Downstairs provides a spring counterpart to the larger, citywide Melrose Open Studios Tour, which takes place in November each year. Upstairs Downstairs is a combination of open studios for the artists who rent space on the second and third floors of the Big Yellow House and an art show for artists who display off their work on the first floor.
Some artists at the event were showing off work only, while others had both smaller prints and gifts and larger pieces for sale. New this year, visitors could get a passport stamped at each studio they visited to be entered in a raffle - providing an incentive for visitors to ensure they didn't miss any of the spaces where artists had their work on display.
As always, Upstairs Downstairs provided community members with the chance to enjoy and buy art, and to get a peek into parts of the Big Yellow House that aren't often on display.
