Property Tax Estimator

bill dropbox

This tool is intended to give you a rough estimate of how the proposed override amounts could impact your property taxes over the next five years, and how those amounts interact with the debt exclusion for the public safety buildings project that voters approved in 2023 (and the last few years of the debt exclusion for the new middle school building). Note that the amounts assessed for the debt exclusion vary over time - you can find more details about that here.

While the city is limited by Prop 2.5 in the revenue it can collect, the exact amount each resident will be assessed will depend on how much new growth there is in the city each year, changes to the assessed value of your property relative to other properties in town, and a number of other factors - which is why this is only an estimate. These numbers are based on our own calculations, not on official projections from the city.

Sometimes residents say that it's hard to find out where their tax dollars are going - so we also broke down this year's city budget into percentages, to give you a general idea of where your property taxes go. You can find more in-depth budget information on the city's website, or see our budget tool for a hands-on look.

There are a number of tax exemption programs available through the city, including the senior circuit breaker exemption, which was recently renewed by the state legislature. Anyone who is concerned about affording their property taxes should contact the Assessor's office to learn whether there might be exemptions available for them.

To use this tool, start by finding your property's assessed value here. (Note that assessed value is usually lower than a property's market value.)
