Coming Soon: Melrose Luminary Night
By Nancy Clover
How often do you have a chance to influence a high school (HS) students’ life?
A little story: I graduated from HS in 1974 (for those who need help with math – yup 50 years ago). Most things from my HS years are fuzzy for me. What is clear is my memory of Awards Night, I received a $200 scholarship (a lot of $ in 1974). I couldn’t believe a total stranger cared enough about me to give me $ to help with nursing school. I am still grateful to this day!
You have a chance to create this feeling for a MHS student by purchasing a $25 luminary kit to support the 220 seniors who will be receiving scholarships this May. Participating in “Light up the streets” is a powerful way to support our seniors both visually and financially.
Help a student have a bright future by contributing to the permanent scholarship fund and lighting your luminaries on Sunday April 7 at 7 pm. The kits contain everything you need for 10 luminaries may be purchased on the MHS Permanent Scholarship Fund website or at Buckalew’s General Store on Main Street.
Join the celebration and help a student while lighting up the night! This is a great neighborhood activity so invite your friends and family to participate – there is a contest for a pizza party for the street with the most luminaries!
