New Hosts for City-Wide Yard Sale This Weekend
This Saturday, the Melrose City-Wide Yard Sale will feature over 70 individual yard sales throughout the city, allowing residents to sell their old things and pass them on to new owners.
After years of being run as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Milano Center, the yard sale this year is being hosted by Lend and Mend and Zero Waste Melrose. Elaina Rivais of Lend and Mend explains that, after the Friends of the Milano Center decided to stop running the yard sale, several residents argued for its importance as a city event and began looking for a new sponsor. It was Stephanie Nelson from the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, Rivais recounts, who realized that the city-wide yard sale would fit with the mission of Lend and Mend and Zero Waste Melrose, and reached out to those organizations as potential hosts.
As the organizers, Lend and Mend and Zero Waste Melrose have created maps of all the sales that are going to be running and advertised the event. Rivais points out that the advantage of running a city-wide yard sale is not only the shared advertising but also the possibility of getting more people to come from outside Melrose to browse and buy at the yard sales.
Several local businesses have agreed to sponsor the yard sale, allowing for the printing of flyers, maps, and information packets, and for advertising the event. The proceeds will go to support Zero Waste Melrose and Lend and Mend’s other events, including local repair cafes and swap days.
Looking at the map of yard sale hosts, it is clear that, on Saturday, the city will be full of things to be sold and then reused, and shoppers will have many places to look for a deal.
The city-wide yard sale will be held on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine. To see the full map of yard sales, follow this link.
