The Bread Shop Arrives in Cedar Park
This summer, beloved bakery The Bread Shop moved into a new space near the Cedar Park train station, bringing a third bakery to the neighborhood.
Back in January, The Bread Shop moved out of their longtime spot in Wakefield after they were unable to negotiate a new lease in their old location. In the interim, head baker Lauren Donati has been teaching classes at The Kitchen.
Now co-owners Donati and Margaret Shimek have moved into a new kitchen space on Tremont Street, where they have twice weekly walk-up hours and bake for four local farmers’ markets, including the Melrose Farmers’ Market on Thursdays.
There has been a lot of anticipation in Melrose for The Bread Shop’s arrival. “We’re pumped,” said Donati. “Melrose has been so welcoming. I can’t go anywhere without people stopping me and saying, ‘Hey, bread girl!’”
Donati and Shimek are still working on plans for what their retail will look like once the local farmers’ markets end in the fall. But Bread Shop fans should look out for collaborations with other local businesses and additional pick-up options coming soon. The Bread Shop also plans to offer their sandwich menu through UberEats soon.
The Bread Shop’s arrival cements Cedar Park as Melrose’s “bakery district,” where three excellent local bakeries - Sweet Spot, Bohemian Coffeehouse, and now The Bread Shop - can be found within a one-block radius of the train station. (And don’t forget Colette, which is just half a mile away on Main Street!)
Although there is some overlap in their offerings, each bakery has a different focus. At Bohemian, patrons can enjoy freshly baked muffins in a variety of flavors along with coffee and other drinks. Sweet Spot is famous for its beautiful cakes and cupcakes, as well as its cookie selection. And The Bread Shop now brings delicious bread loaves and their famous cinnamon rolls to the neighborhood.
The Bread Shop’s new kitchen space is located at 38B Tremont Street. Their current hours are:
- Monday: Beverly Farmers' Market, 3-7pm
- Wednesday: Walk-Up at Tremont Street, 2-5pm
- Thursday: Melrose Farmers' Market, 1-6pm
- Friday: Revere Farmers' Market, 12-4pm
- Saturday: Wakefield Farmers' Market, 9-1pm
- Sunday: Walk-Up at Tremont Street, 8-11am
Stop by during walk-up hours or at the farmers' market and say hi!
