Chalk Walk Fundraiser Makes Sidewalks Beautiful
On Saturday, Melrosians of all ages came out to Ell Pond and City Hall to watch artists at work and make their own chalk art.
At City Hall, sponsored artists created squares for sponsoring families and individuals as well as local businesses and community organizations. Some had themes that reflected their sponsors - the front of the Melrose Oriental Rug store, for example, for the leading sponsor, and a pumpkin for the Food Drive - while others depicted scenes from the artists' imaginations. There was live music and viewers enjoyed getting to watch the artists at work as they used spray chalk and oil pastels to create their squares.
Over at Ell Pond, by the gazebo, community members created their own squares, with some Halloween- or fall-themed, and abstract or following other themes. There was face painting, and Finley the Therapy Dog made an appearance, too.
The Chalk Walk galleries at City Hall and Ell Pond will be open for the public to view for as long as the chalk lasts - until the next big rainstorm!
