2024 General Election - How Did Melrose Vote?
Over 16,000 voters came out in Melrose yesterday and throughout the early voting process to cast their votes for president, Senate, and the five statewide ballot questions, for turnout of almost 77%.
Overall, Melrose voters agreed with voters statewide on the competitive races.
- 69% of Melrose voters chose Kamala Harris for president (compared to 62% statewide), and 27% chose Donald Trump (compared to 36% statewide).
- 65% of Melrose voters chose to re-elect Elizabeth Warren for Senate (compared to 60% statewide).
- 60% supported Maria Curtatone for South Middlesex Register of Deeds (Curtatone has won this race, but official numbers are still pending).
Melrose voters also agreed with voters statewide on each of the five ballot questions.
- Question 1 (Should the State Auditor have the authority to audit the State Legislature?) won statewide with 72% support; 69% of Melrose voters supported Yes on 1.
- Question 2 (Should the MCAS test be eliminated as a high school graduation requirement?) also won statewide with 59% support; 54% of Melrose voters supported Yes on 2.
- Question 3 (Should Massachusetts rideshare drivers have the option to join a union?) also won statewide with 54% support; 53% of Melrose voters supported Yes on 3.
- Question 4 (Should certain natural psychedelic substances be legal to use under licensed supervision and to possess in limited quantities in the home?) lost statewide with 57% voting No on 4; 55% of Melrose voters opposed Question 4.
- Question 5 (Should employers be required to pay tipped workers the full state minimum wage and be allowed to pool tips?) lost statewide with 64% of voting No on 5; 65% of Melrose voters opposed Question 5.
