A Very Melrose Holiday Shopping Guide
Still have some last-minute holiday shopping to do? Forget about Amazon! Don’t make the long drive out to Stoneham or Saugus to battle all those other last-minute shoppers at Target or Walmart! You can find something for everyone on your list right here in Melrose, without setting foot outside the best city in the Commonwealth!
First off, there are physical gifts and gift certificates:
- Pick up something for the book lovers in your life at Molly’s Bookstore (or get them a gift card if you’re not sure what they'd like)
- Stop by Lilah Rose for all your toy needs, and the Annex for fun gifts for grown-ups
- Find something made by a local artist at Paper and Clay or the Follow Your Artisan sale (running through December 21st) - or stop by the West Foster Artisans Collaborative Holiday Pop-Up this weekend (December 14th and 15th), the pop-up on Main Street, or Ellen Rolli Studio during opening hours
- Grab a bottle or a few cans of something festive at Buckalew’s, Victoria Hill, or Hannah’s
- Get something for the bike enthusiast at The Ride Cafe - anything from an e-bike or a kids’ scooter to a t-shirt or some fun bike lights
- Pick up a gift certificate to a favorite local restaurant, salon, or even a masseuse!
- Shopping for a fitness guru, or someone who just wants to get in shape? Treat them to a membership to the YMCA, fit life, Barre and Soul, the new btone on Main Street, or one of the other local gyms
- Shopping for an aspiring artist or musician? Why not get them a gift certificate for classes at Follow Your Art, Paper and Clay, or any of the local dance or music studios?
No idea what to get but still want to support all our favorite Melrose businesses? Get a Shop Melrose Gift Certificate that the recipient can use in any Melrose business!
And, since the holidays are all about giving to others, what about making a donation to a local nonprofit in someone’s name? There's:
- The Food Drive, of course, which lets you contribute to hunger relief efforts and reducing food waste at the same time - a win-win!
- The Melrose Education Foundation, which sponsors Parent University and provides grants to Melrose Public Schools educators - how about making a donation in your child’s teacher’s name?
- The Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund - what better way to celebrate the holidays than helping a high school student pay for college?
- The Melrose Veterans' Relief Fund, which goes to supporting veterans in need in our community
- The Arts for All scholarship program at Follow Your Art, which covers tuition and other fees to make classes accessible to all families and to students with disabilities
- Our wonderful local music groups, the Melrose Symphony Orchestra and Polymnia Choral Society
- Friends of the Melrose Public Library - celebrate the library's return to West Emerson Street early next year by supporting programming and resources!
- Friends of Melrose Memorial Hall, which supports repairs and improvements to Memorial Hall
- The Melrose Emergency Fund, which provides temporary support to Melrose residents experiencing hard times
- SDM Foundation, which provides free technology education to the community
- One of many school-based organizations: your school’s PTO, Friends of Melrose Drama, or the Melrose Band or sports teams
